Our 2016-17 Maine Champion Alisa Is Pursuing Her Dreams of Being a Dancer

On the way home from a summer barbeque, a horrific car accident changed everything for Alisa and her parents. Alisa, 11 years old at the time, vividly remembers pulling shards of glass and leftover potato salad from her hair before being taken to the hospital.

Thankfully, emergency surgery repaired tears in Alisa’s bowel and spleen. Doctors also carefully sutured her broken and split-open nose, leaving hardly any scarring. Alisa’s dad spent several days in the intensive care unit. Her mom, recovering from multiple broken bones and a shattered foot, eventually joined Alisa in the pediatric department so they could heal together.

An uncle stayed by Alisa’s bedside until her mom was well, thanks to new reclining rockers purchased with CMN Hospitals funds. Grateful they pulled through, Alisa’s family credits their incredible caregivers. Now fully healed, Alisa is pursuing her dreams of becoming a dancer.

How donations helped Alisa at EMHS Foundation:

CMN Hospitals donations outfit the emergency department, first responders and operating room with equipment to respond immediately to kids in trauma. Alisa also benefitted from the child life specialists who were able to hone their skills through continuing education courses and conferences thanks to donations.
