CMN Hospitals Presents Dierks Bentley with the 2018 CRS Humanitarian Award

Dierks Bentley was honored at this year’s Country Radio Seminar with the 2018 CRS Artist Humanitarian Award. Presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Bentley was honored for exhibiting exceptional humanitarian efforts during his career, most notably for the 10-year run of his Miles & Music for Kids event, which combines charity motorcycle rides with a live country concert. So far, Bentley has raised more than $4 million for children’s hospitals across the country.

To help kick-off the awards presentation, Jessica Meyer, a cancer-survivor who was treated at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn., shared her story and recognized the country radio stations and musicians who have been instrumental in raising funds and awareness for their local children’s hospitals.

Bentley has had the opportunity to meet with a number of patients from local children’s hospitals, including Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

“Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital is a great institution where medicine, science, research, development and people that genuinely care all come together to make these miracles happen every day,” Bentley said as he accepted the award.

“These kids, they’re stars, they glow, they light up the room,” Bentley added as he shared his experiences and the pediatric patients he’s met. “You walk in there thinking you’re going to do something to raise their spirits when you go visit them in these hospitals and the tables totally get turned around on you. They’re amazing people.”

Bentley said that the idea for Miles & Music for Kids came after his manager at the time had a child need treatment at the local children’s hospital.

While Bently announced in 2016 that he’d be taking a break from the Miles & Music event, he does not see his receiving the Humanitarian Award as the end of his efforts, but rather the beginning.

“You have so much energy in your show when you’re fighting for something,” Bentley said.

“I always want to be remembered that way,” he added. “I hope I can continue to be someone that’s fighting for our friends and neighbors in need.”
