Take the Lead is a blog series from Teri Nestel, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In this leadership-focused series, Teri will share her insights and leadership lessons alike.

As we approach the holidays – the season of giving – I want to express my heartfelt thanks to those who give of themselves throughout the year to change kids’ health to change the future.

The medical and support teams at our 170 member hospitals across the U.S. and Canada continue to be tested to the max, first in caring for children with COVID, and now in caring for an influx of children with RSV. They’re our dedicated heroes on the front lines. It’s our distinct honor to support their work with unrestricted funding for equipment, programs, research, and other essential services to help them provide the best possible care for children in their communities. Collectively, they care for more than 10 million kids a year — that’s 62 kids a minute.

Our corporate and media partners and fundraising programs make our support of local member children’s hospitals possible. There are our hundreds of thousands of community supporters – including Extra Life gamers, Play Yellow golfers, Dance Marathon participants, and those who participate in fundraising walks, radiothons and other local fundraising events held by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, or campaigns hosted at the local businesses of our corporate partners across the U.S. and Canada.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has also benefited from the support of hundreds of celebrities and influencers – including co-founders Marie Osmond and John Schneider. Our celebrity partners visit member children’s hospitals, record PSAs, attend events, and use their social media channels to raise awareness and funds. We are so grateful for them!

And then there is the extraordinary Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals board, which supports and guides our efforts, and our remarkable, hardworking professional team, always laser-focused on advancing our mission to change kids’ health to change the future.

Collectively, we have raised more than $8 billion for member children’s hospitals since the formation of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in 1983. Through the power of our network, we unite communities to raise millions of dollars every year to help kids have access to the most advanced, holistic health care to unleash their future potential.

Thanks for an incredible 2022 – and we can’t wait to celebrate 40 years in 2023!
