Children Helping Children

Since 2022, I’ve volunteered 3–4 hours each week at the Children’s Specialized Hospital, supporting children with special health needs. Over time, I’ve built real bonds with the kids I work with—they’ve become such a meaningful part of my life that I often find myself sharing stories about them at home. When I learned that the hospital’s swim safety program was at risk of shutting down due to financial constraints, I started donating a portion of my income from my part-time job at an ice cream shop. But I quickly realized I could do more.

In 2023, I launched a series of “Children Helping Children” fairs to get more kids and teens involved in fundraising efforts for the hospital. At these events, young people run small businesses—selling crafts, baked goods, handmade jewelry—and donate their profits to support hospital programs. So far, I’ve organized five fairs:

• August 2023 – Township Recreation Park
• October 2023 – Somerset County 4-H Gym
• May 2024 – Township Charter Day
• August 2024 – Somerset County 4-H Fair
• May 2025 – Township Charter Day

This year, I even invited a middle schooler who’s participated in every fair so far to build a team so the project can continue after I leave for college. Looking ahead, I hope to expand the mission by starting a YouTube channel to reach and inspire more children to get involved.
