11-year-old Heart Transplant Recipient Accepts Miracle Award at Event Hosted by Kevin Jonas
Courageous and talented Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals patient, 11-year-old Eileen Garrido, was presented with the 2011 Miracle Award Nov. 19 at the Xbox Miracle of Music Benefit in Hollywood. The event was hosted by Give Back Hollywood, an organization connecting celebrities to charities, in honor of the 2011 American Music Awards (AMA). Actors, musicians and celebrities gathered in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®, a charity that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America.
John Lauck, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, greeted guests, thanked attendees and kicked off the live performances. After receiving the Miracle Award from singer Estelle, Eileen Garrido performed Barbra Streisand’s song “People” for the star-studded crowd. Guests were also treated to a performance by the band Hot Chelle Rae, recently named the 2011 AMA’s New Artist of the Year.
In addition to the award ceremony and musical performances, the event was packed with interactive activities. Kevin Jonas and Soulja Boy were spotted playing tennis and skiing on the Xbox Kinect with “miracle children” treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Matrix sponsored a Beauty Lounge to prettify attendees and donated $250 to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for celeb tweets during the event. Guests also enjoyed live T-shirt and tote bag screen printing and a digital photo booth. Connor Cruise, known as DJ C-Squared and the son of Tom Crusie and Nicole Kidman, was a special guest DJ and entertained guests including Jojo, BooBoo Stewart, Perez Hilton, Kyle Massey and YouTube sensation Keenan Cahill.
