Filling the Gap

It’s a sobering fact. More kids need the specialized care only children’s hospitals can provide than can afford it.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2018, 4.3 million children didn’t have health insurance and 37 million children relied on Medicaid to cover health expenses. About half of everyone covered by a public health insurance plan are children and youth. The reality is that children’s hospitals are not reimbursed for the full cost of caring for patients on public health insurance programs. Donations help make up the difference.

Our network of 170 children’s hospitals provide about $3.4 billion annually in charitable care for low-income patients that otherwise would not be able to afford it. In fact, in 2020, nearly $63 million helped fund charitable care at our member hospitals.

Clearly, there is funding gap between what hospitals have and what they need. You can help by donating to your children’s hospital today. Your donation helps ensure kids can lead healthy, fulfilling lives. Click here to donate now!
