Costco makes miracles in May!

During the month of May when you’re checking out at the register at Costco, purchase a $1, $5, $10 or $100 icon balloon to help kids like Makenna.

Makenna’s Larsen Syndrome causes bone dislocations and affects her airway, spine and joints. She’s had 15 surgeries in her 16 years of life.

But the most remarkable thing about this teenager is her huge generosity of spirit. Wanting to help children with illnesses like hers, she started fundraising on a yearly basis, eventually forming her own non-profit called the Makspire Foundation. To date, she’s helped raise more than $1 million for her hospital, Seattle Children’s Hospital, near Costco’s corporate headquarters in Washington.

She finds joy in her diagnosis, saying that without it she wouldn’t be the person she is. “That’s why I devote my spare time to raising funds for the hospital and encouraging other kids to bring about the positive changes they want to see in the world,” she says.

You’ll be able to spot her on the TVs in the electronics department at every Costco warehouse all month!

The Costco balloon campaign runs through May 31 where funds stay local to directly help kids in that community. Since 1988, Costco employees and members have donated more than $386 million for kids treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across North America.
