Ace Hardware Raises More Than $1.8 Million During the Month of April

Each year, millions of children require specialized, expensive health care. Children’s hospitals are on the frontlines of this crisis, providing high-quality, compassionate care that children need. But they can’t do it alone.

During April, participating Ace Hardware locations asked customers to round up their purchases and raised over $1.8 million to help kids treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the United States.

Funds raised will transform how member hospitals meet the most urgent needs, save more lives and protect our collective future. And Ace Hardware knows that when we change kids’ health, we change the future – for all of us.

In partnership with Ace, CMN Hospitals donations gathered during April will help patients like Avery, the 2020-21 Ace All-Star.

Two days before her seventh birthday, Avery was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hepatoblastoma, a type of liver cancer. She immediately underwent numerous surgeries and chemotherapy treatments at UPMC Children’s, where it was discovered that most of Avery’s liver was blackened and mottled with cancer.

The original treatment plan was for seven rounds of chemotherapy, after which it would be determined if her cancer numbers had lowered enough to be placed on the transplant waiting list.

On December 8, 2015, Avery received her liver transplant. In all, she underwent 10 rounds of chemotherapy, a liver transplant, lung surgery and various other treatments and surgeries in order to get to where she is today.

Avery, now a healthy and happy 12-year-old, loves to help other kids that have been in her situation and show them that they too can lead a normal, healthy life. She hopes to one day graduate from college and then become a nurse at UPMC Children’s, as she has seen first-hand how helpful it can be to receive treatment from someone who has experienced what children like her have gone through. Avery loves to sing and take horseback riding lessons.

Thank you Ace for being the helpful place and to Ace customers for helping change kids’ health to change the future. When we positively change the health of even one child, we create a ripple effect felt by our communities for years to come.
