Gloucester Walmart Leads the Region in Fundraising!

In 1991, Walmart and Sam’s Club, a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ corporate partner, began fundraising for Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia, when the first store in our region opened in Elizabeth City. Today, we have 38 stores throughout Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore and northeastern North Carolina who work together each year to raise critical funds for CHKD. Since then, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates have helped raise over $13 million for CHKD.

In 2002 the stores made a commitment to support Radiology at CHKD, and have contributed over $11 million since then. Funds from this year’s campaign will help to upgrade our x-ray equipment from Computed Radiology (CR) to Digital Radiography (DR) technology which offers improved image quality, faster workflow and a radiation dose reduction of approximately 50-60%!

This year, Walmart and Sam’s Club hosted their annual Round Up campaign from June 12 – July 14, where customers were asked to Round Up their total to the nearest dollar for their local CMN Hospital. In addition, stores hosted car shows and pop up shops, bake sales, sold popcorn and lemonade and more, all to raise funds for children’s hospitals.

Locally, during the 33 day campaign, our 38 stores raised over $280,000 for CHKD, a 24% increase over the 2022 campaign.

Walmart 1759 in Gloucester, Virginia, raised an incredible $38,564.73 for CHKD, which, for the third year in a row, earned them the spot as the top fundraising store in their market, region AND the East Business Unit (which comprises 834 stores from South Carolina to Maine along the East Coast). HUGE congratulations and thank you to the incredible associates and community in Gloucester that made this possible.

Thank you, Walmart and Sam’s Club!
