Your support helps fill educational gaps for kids through learning programs at CMN Hospitals

While kids across the country were returning to school this fall, children hospitalized with serious medical conditions weren’t able to join their classmates at school.

However, hospital-based learning programs funded by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are helping to make sure their intellectual and educational needs are being met.

CMN Hospitals member hospitals offer a variety of learning programs, ranging from in-hospital tutoring to homework assistance to hospital-based schools, as part of the holistic care they provide for children.

These programs, essential to a child’s well-being, are primarily supported by philanthropic funding from corporate and community partners who want to ensure that kids get the care they require to achieve their full potential.

The Panda Center of Hope hospital school at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX, winner of CMN Hospitals’ 2023 U.S. Impact Award, is a great example. Hospital teacher Marie Soza approached Driscoll about starting a school in 2007 to give back in memory of her son Blaise, whose schooling was disrupted by frequent travel for cancer treatment and long hospital stays. She calls the school “a normal classroom in an abnormal setting” that teaches Pre-K through Grade 12 subjects creatively and fun and promotes self-care for parents and caregivers. The 1 Darn Cool School at Phoenix Children’s, 100% funded by Desert Financial Credit Union and the Desert Financial Foundation, serves as a bridge between the hospital and a child’s school so they can stay on track with their education.

Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, offers educational liaison services with community schools, tutoring services, and hands-on academic activities through WIZkids videos and group lessons. CMN Hospitals’ mission of changing kids’ health to change the future encompasses all a child needs to live a fulfilling life. Visit cmnhospitals.org to learn more.
